Acids & Bases Glossary
Acid a substance that produces H+ ions in solution
Alkali a base that is soluble in water and releases OH- ions
Base a substance that removes acid particles in solution
Indicator a substance used to indicate if a solution is acidic or basic
Ion atom or group of atoms with a positive or negative charge, caused by a loss or gain of electrons
Neutral a substance/solution that is neither acidic nor basic (pH=7)
Neutralisation the reaction between H+ and OH- ions to produce water
pH degree of acidity or alkalinity of a substance/solution
